From the OC Register, Teemu Wins A Pig!
The team captained by Teemu Selanne defeated the team captained by Corey Perry on Saturday during the Ducks’ annual skills competition at Honda Center.
Nearly 5,000 people attended the event, which included the players taking part in a variety of All-Star weekend-style skills tests.
With his team victorious for the second consecutive year, Selanne was presented with the giant ceramic pig that commemorates the occasion. The story behind the pig’s existence is, frankly, a little cloudy. It’s a team secret.
“It’s great that so many showed up again,” Selanne said afterward, still clutching the pig. “It’s nice to have fun and give a little extra for the fans.”
The winning captain then was asked about the emotion of lifting the giant pig for a second season in a row.
“It was similar to when I hoisted the Stanley Cup, you know?” Selanne joked. “This is pretty heavy, too. You have to earn this. This little pig came home, so it’s good.”
Among the highlights Saturday, Cam Fowler was crowned the fastest skater, edging out Lubomir Visnovsky; Ryan Getzlaf had the hardest shot at 99.3 mph; and Perry and George Parros tied as the most accurate shooter, both hitting all four targets in four tries.
There was some controversy, however, when each of Perry’s shots didn’t break the Styrofoam bull’s-eye.
“Corey Perry shoots his muffins,” Selanne said. “He couldn’t even break the coin.”
